Transparency Serbia NGO has called for urgent adoption of changes to the law on financing of political parties and new law on financing of political activities. The NGO pointed out in a release that there was a possibility that those parties that had not filed their 2010 financial reports would otherwise go unpunished. NGO calls for control in financing of parties According to the existing law, every political party must submit a final account, property report and report on donations worth more than RSD 6,000 to the Anti-Corruption Agency once a year. Since there is no deadline for the submission of the reports, the parties that do not fulfill their obligation cannot be sanctioned. The legislators’ omission, even though it was noticed eight years ago, still has not been fixed, it is added in the release. The Serbian parliament’s Finance Committee and the Anti-Corruption Agency have set April 15 as an unofficial deadline for submission of the reports, the NGO stressed. Draft Law on Financing of Political Activities also envisages April 15 as the deadline. If the draft law is not adopted by April 15, the parties who violate the obligation will not be sanctioned before 2012.
