Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) leader Vojislav Kostunica has called on “national, self-conscious and free Serbia” to react to a campaign led against the DSS. He said at the DSS Main Board meeting that not a single regime would be able to prevent the return of a free Serbian thought. Kostunica: DSS attacked for its policy The DSS leader did not elaborate on a response that would follow, pointing out that some media were leading an open everyday campaign against the DSS. “A true and only reason why the regime is attacking the DSS is our policy. That we are telling them (citizens) the truth about Kosovo, that we are telling them the truth about NATO, that we are telling them the truth about the EU, about the uncertainty, misery and poverty that the regime has pushed our country into,” Kostunica stressed. According to him, the public, mainly nationally responsible intellectuals, have responded to the attacks on the DSS and humiliation of Serbia. “This is a moment when a decision of the most responsible part of the public has matured, that not a single bad word can be thrown at Serbia anymore without getting a deserved response. Not everybody can just decide to insult our history, culture, church, religion, tradition, alphabet, values without getting an immediate response anymore,” he stated. According to the DSS leader, the DSS policy is hurting the image of the current regime and this is why the special prosecutor wants to “strong-arm such policy”. “No judicial reform and no special prosecutor will be able to stop Serbia’s crying need to restore its self-esteem and to freely harbor and develop a free Serbian thought in Belgrade again. There’s no other way anymore than to respond to all the insults, every primitive slander, every attack on Serbia everywhere and on every occasion,” the DSS leader stressed. Serbian Special Prosecutor for Organized Crime Miljko Radisavljevic recently announced that Kostunica would be questioned as a witness in the investigation into the political background of Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic’s murder. Kostunica, however, said last week that he would not respond to the prosecution’s call. Interior Minister Ivica Dacic has stated that the DSS leader so far is not on the list of persons who will be interrogated during the investigation. Vojislav Kostunica (FoNet, file)
