Opposition DSS party leader Vojislav Kostunica says plans to question him in relation to the Djindjic murder amounted to "violence against law". "I will not respond to that violence with violence, and I believe that in this case, once again, it is about a huge pressure from abroad," the former Serbian PM told Belgrade's Press tabloid. Opposition party leader and ex-PM reacts Officials said earlier this month that Kostunica would be one of the persons asked to give their statements in an investigation into the political background of the 2003 assassination of PM Zoran Djindjic. Kostunica told the paper that the move represents "a staged political process and violence against law". Asked whether he would accept "the call for the hearing", he said: "I will answer your question with another question. Do the people of Serbia know that an unscrupulous campaign has been conducted against DSS for a long time concerning a series of issues, including the political background of the assassination of Zoran Djindjic? Special prosecutor Miljko Radisavljevic eventually got involved in the campaign, and finally announced that process in the media," Kostunica said. He added that the special prosecutor was in office at the time he served as prime minister. "Why didn't he launch my questioning then, did I perhaps exert pressure on him not to do so?," Kostunica was quoted as saying. Asked why he believed that the prosecutor's move was an attack of the ruling Democrats (DS) against his party, Kostunica said that while DSS was not the strongest, it was "the most opposition of all parties", and asserted that the party has in the past three years been exposed to "a systematic smear campaign aimed at destroying it". "Since the authorities did not manage to destroy DSS through media campaigns, they are announcing their next step, and that is to misuse the prosecution, as was done in the darkest times. I am calling on the authorities to say openly whether the prosecution will go after every person who fights for Kosovo and Metohija, and whether every person criticizing the EU and standing against joining NATO will now be persecuted," Kostunica concluded.
