Opposition SNS leader Tomislav Nikolic stated in Brussels that his party is prepared for an election that would be held at the end of this year. Beta news agency reports that Nikolic stated this would come after the EU declares its stand regarding Serbia's membership candidacy. SNS for elections "after EC decision" After a meeting with EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule, Nikolic stressed the Progressive Party's complete focus on Serbia's EU road, saying that the party is ready to fulfill all of Serbia's obligations, including full cooperation with the Hague tribunal. European diplomatic sources told Beta that the European Commission believes that both an early and a regular election in Serbia - in March 2012, could slow down the making of the decision of the EU Council of Ministers on granting Serbia the status of EU member candidate and, which is crucial, setting the date for the start of negotiations on the matter. Moreover, as the well-informed officials in Brussels put it, Serbia must meet all the set demands. This is what Fule told Nikolic: from the reform of the judiciary to the arrest of Ratko Mladic. Because, without this full cooperation with the tribunal, certain EU members would not allow negotiations with Serbia. Tomislav Nikolic (Beta, file)
