Opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) leader Vojislav Kostunica says he is not responsible for Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic's murder. He added that a call for questioning would be a political persecution and repression by the authorities. Opposition party leader decries "persecution" The state prosecutor has announced that he would be questioned in a pre-trial proceeding about the PM's assassination. Kostunica told a press conference that the prosecution is abusing the office and that this represents a beginning of a campaign against the DSS and himself and implied that he would not respond to the prosecution's call for questioning. He claims that the only thing that is linking the DSS with Djindjic's murder is one of his statements. Kostunica, who was a Yugoslav president at the time, justified a mutiny of the Special Operations Unit (JSO). The DSS leader pointed out that he had only said what both the government and Djindjic himself had been saying and stated that although the JSO and DSS' requests had been similar, their goals had been different. “Our goals did not match. If the goals matched they were different from the goals of Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic's government,“ he explained. According to him, the investigation into the political background of the PM's assassination is a campaign against his party led by the media and the state authorities. “Therefore, the DSS strongly condemns the judiciary for creating rigged political processes. I say clearly, and I will repeat on every occasion, and we will repeat that the abuse of the prosecution in this case is actually a beginning of the Democratic Party's campaign,“ Kostunica stressed. “After a catastrophic and well-known catastrophic situation in the country, the only ace that the government, unfortunately, has up its sleeve is repression,“ he said. When asked whether he would respond to the prosecution's call for questionning, the DSS leader said that he had already said everything he had to say about Djindjic's murder.
