The War Crimes Prosecution denies Humanitarian Law Center Director Natasa Kandic’s allegations that it took money in order to release a suspect from custody. Kandic made the accusations in a Radio B92 program. War Crimes Prosecution to sue NGO head The prosecution pointed out in a release that Deputy War Crimes Prosecutor Dragoljub Stankovic would file defamation charges against the Humanitarian Law Center director. “Deputy Prosecutor Dragoljub Stankovic was not called either by first or last name in the program, but he is explicitly mentioned in the Humanitarian Law Center’s report ‘Cooperation between the Serbian state bodies and the Humanitarian Law Center’ which was submitted to the Serbian war crimes prosecutor on November 19, 2010 which made him take this step,” it is said in the release. “The prosecution has assessed that such unfounded and malicious statements by the Humanitarian Law Center President Natasa Kandic are degrading and damaging the War Crimes Prosecution and Deputy Prosecutor Stankovic personally,” the War Crimes Prosecution stated. “Deputy Prosecutor Stankovic was and is working on the most complex war crimes cases such as the Bytyqi Brothers, Cuska, Suva Reka, Orahovac group, Anton Lekaj, human trafficking. His safety has been jeopardized on several occasions due to his work on the mentioned cases,” the prosecution concluded in the release which has been sent to B92. Kandic stressed that the entire case had been described in a report on War Crime Prosecution’s work which the Humanitarian Law Center sent to the government last year. “I am still waiting for somebody to do something about this,” she told B92 but did not say who, when and in which case took the money.
