Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO) leader Vuk Draskovic on Wednesday attended an SPO gathering in Belgrade. It was held to mark 20 years since the first mass protest against Slobodan Milosevic's regime. "Wheel of transition ran over March 9 heroes" He said today that Serbia, however humiliated, will act as a dam to those who want to take the country back to the 1990s. In front of a crowd of 2,000 supporters in downtown Belgrade, Draskovic said that "the era which has been termed the democratic transition has cruelly ran over the heroes of March 9." "We need to discard the people who even today, as ministers in a pro-European government, sit under a photograph of the man we fought against, who visit a grave in Pozarevac and say publicly, as ministers in a pro-European government, that a saint lies in that grave," Draskovic pointed out. With the message that the people "need bread and work," Draskovic said these people are "starting fights with our neighbors and with the democratic world, and doing everything to keep Serbia out of Europe." Commenting on the announced protest of the Serb Progressive Party, he said it is a "banality and a spiritual downfall." Before his speech, Draskovic and party officials and activists lit candles and laid flowers for the victims of March 9 demonstrations, Branivoje Milinovic and police officer Nedeljko Kostic.
