Ruling DS parliamentary group chief Nada Kolundzija says the opposition SNS party's request to call early elections was pure marketing and party propaganda. Kolundzija told reporters in the Serbian parliament referring to the announcement by SNS leader Tomislav Nikolic that the party is willing to call off its rally set for April 16 if the government calls early parliamentary elections right after Serbia gets the status of a candidate for EU membership is proof of SNS political inconsistency. Democrats: Opposition request party propaganda "This does not mean that elections might not be held at the end of this year, but the fact is that there is no need for their calling before the regular deadline, especially bearing in mind Serbia's upcoming tasks in connection with European integration, which should result in getting the candidate status and perhaps setting a date for pre-accession negotiations," Kolundzija stressed. SNS is willing to call off its rally set for April 16 if the government calls early parliamentary elections right after Serbia gets the status of a candidate for EU membership, Tomislav Nikolic said on Monday. According to Nikolic, his party is also willing to refrain from organizing any rallies until Serbia gets the candidacy if the government promises to call the elections immediately after the country becomes a candidate, which is expected in late November or early December. The current government's mandate will expire next spring.
