Head of the Serbian negotiating team for the Belgrade-Pristina talks Borko Stefanovic expects the dialogue to begin after the new Kosovo government is formed. “It is time to resolve the conflict between Serbs and ethnic Albanians which has been a burden for the country for decades,” he told daily Press. “Time to resolve conflict in Kosovo” “The Kosovo issue needs to be resolved, as Serbia owes that to its citizens living in the southern province,” he stressed. “Serbia will enter the negotiations with a new, flexible and creative approach, wishing above all to reach an agreement on normal living conditions and safety for Serbs in Kosovo,” Stefanovic was quoted as saying. “Serbia also wants to have the Kosovo issue resolved definitely before its joins the European Union,” he pointed out. He said the EU had not defined the list of topics for discussion, but that they would probably include telecommunications, air traffic and cadastral issues first. “The Serbian negotiating team has proposed also the issue of missing persons, but no decision has been made yet in this regard,” the head of the Serbian negotiating team explained. “The Serbian negotiating team is open to any agreement that would not be contrary to national interests,” he said. Asked whether the EU could at the end of the negotiations ask Serbia to recognize Kosovo, Stefanovic said this was not possible, as the EU had a status-neutral approach.
