All the countries of the region are on the right path toward the EU, said EU Enlargement Directorate Deputy Director Stefano Sannino. He said that Kosovo should be included in the process as well. “Both region and Kosovo to move toward EU” “The region as a whole is going in the right direction. Certain countries, Croatia and Montenegro, have made a significant progress, but others are also making a big effort in order to join the EU,” he said after a meeting with EU Envoy to north Kosovo Michael Giffoni in Kosovska Mitrovica today. He pointed out that the EU would like to see Kosovo in the same process and added that during his talks with the officials of the Western Balkan countries had tried to define the priorities that could help speed up the EU integration process of the countries of the region. Giffoni said that the EU’s goal was to increase north Kosovo’s credibility as a result of a joint EULEX and EU’s efforts. He said he had presented new ideas to Sannino which the EU and EULEX would continue to follow in order to create better future for the local communities. “One of the most important European standards is the rule of law and that’s why we are here,” said EULEX Deputy Chief Andy Sparks and added that all political challenges should be a part of the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. “We are here to help combat organized crime with larger presence in order to improve the region’s prosperity and bring these parts closer to Europe, as much as we can,” Sparks stated.
