“Army reform still ahead”

Army reform is still ahead of us even though professionalization is finished, said Serbian Army (VS) Chief of the General Staff Lt. Gen. Miloje Miletic. “What we still have ahead of us is better training of our units and preparation of soldiers to carry out their missions and assignments in a professional manner,” he pointed out. “Army reform still ahead” According to him, armies around the world constantly implement reforms, improve organization, work and efficiency. Miletic, however, stressed that the VS was lagging behind in terms of modernization due to financial reasons. Speaking about financial situation of the VS members, he said that it had not improved because the soldiers shared the fate of the people. The chief of the general staff added that the army’s position in society was better and that the proof of that was the fact that young people were very interested in enrolling in military academies. Miletic has also announced that the VS members’ housing problems will be solved soon. Commenting on the meeting of the chiefs of the general staffs from 69 countries, which will be held in Belgrade in June, he said that it was a strategic partnership conference and that it was not a NATO conference.
