The State Audit Institution (DRI) filed 12 misdemeanor charges against 14 ministerial officials today. The charges have been filed against those officials who violated the rules during allocation of funds from the 2009 budget. Ministers named in DRI complaints The DRI has filed complaints against four ministers – Labor Minister Rasim Ljajic, Infrastructure Minister Milutin Mrkonjic and Agriculture Minister Sasa Dragin. Complaints were also filed against two assistant ministers, two state secretaries and four junior officials. Even though DRI President Radoslav Sretenovic announced earlier that the DRI could even file criminal charges, he has decided to file misdemeanor charges this year after all. The DRI already filed misdemeanor charges for violation of rules of the 2008 budget against six ministers and five former ministers last year. High Magistrates Court Acting President Zoran Pasalic says that proceedings against the officials who were charged in 2010 are underway. “There are proceedings in which the court is deciding on appeals, and some are still underway,“ he pointed out. Pasalic could not say whether some of the proceedings were in their final stages or when the first verdict could be announced because he did not want to prejudge the verdict. If the court determines that there was a violation, the offenders will be fined with RSD 5,000 to RSD 1mn. The highest fine used to be RSD 50,000 until fines were increased on July 25, 2009.
