The U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Political-Military Affairs has canceled his visit to Pristina planned for today. Albanian language media in Pristina did not report either why the visit was scheduled or why it was canceled, but noted earlier today that it was supposed to comes during negotiations to form a government there. U.S. State Dept. official cancels Pristina trip On Tuesday in Brussels, Thomas Countryman stated that he expected the forthcoming Belgrade-Pristina dialogue to start as soon as the government in Prisitina has been constituted. The U.S. official said that Washington is "taking very seriously the grave charge" which Council of Europe Special Rapporteur Dick Marty made against Kosovo Albanian officials in his report on illegal human organ trafficking in Kosovo. However, Countryman noted, "judgments on anyone's guilt cannot be passed in advance". Countryman told reporters in Brussels that the "entire investigation into Marty's allegations should be carried out by EULEX", and he "welcomed Pristina and Tirana's readiness to participate in the proceedings". The U.S. official said that the Serbian government was "investing great efforts" aimed at finding and arresting former Bosnian Serb leader Ratko Mladic, but added that it is difficult to predict the results the country will achieve in this field. "Now, more than ever before, it is important for the U.S. and Europe to coordinate their stands toward south-eastern Europe," Countryman said and added that Washington believes "democracy can be achieved in the countries of the region through their European integration".
