Deputy PM Ivica Dacic said in Cleveland, Ohio, that Serbia needed to establish closer ties with the U.S. cities and states with Serb populations, Beta reports. Dacic attended a formal dinner with the diaspora in Cleveland and the special guests were Honorary Consul in Ohio Alex Machaskee, who was presented with a Serbian Interior Ministry silver plaque and a Serbian flag, and Jennifer Brass of the State Department and former U.S. deputy ambassador to Belgrade. "Closer ties with Serbs in U.S. needed" "There are many of us, but we are not connected well enough," said Dacic who added that he was sure that members of the Serb diaspora were respected citizens and that the U.S. administration had not had "so many problems with the Serb diaspora, perhaps unlike with some others." He thanked the Serbian Orthodox Church for its contribution to maintaining the spiritual integrity and identity of the Serbian people and called on members of the diaspora to keep their Serbian national and cultural identity while at the same time being good citizens of the U.S. Ivica Dacic (Tanjug, file)
