The government did not show much understanding for opposition’s request to hold early elections within next two months. The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) has given government two months to call early elections or they would continue peaceful protests. Parties, experts on SNS rally Democratic Party (DS) deputy leader Jelena Trivan says that it is a good thing that the citizens and the government had an opportunity to hear the opposition’s requests and ideas. She pointed out, however, that none of the parties that protested yesterday offered a concrete solution or a platform. Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) MP Bojan Djuric told B92 that the government was responsible for the bad situation in the country, but that the SNS also bore responsibility because it had supported the government’s wrong decisions. “They made all key decisions, that make life in Serbia look the way it does today, together – from the Constitution in 2006, energy agreement, unsustainable decision on military neutrality to demagogy in the economy,” he stressed. The LDP MP said that the SNS did not present a realistic program that would improve the citizens’ lives. He also added that the opposition rally had clearly showed that Serbia could not have a two-party system. “I think that the situation in Serbia is completely clear after the rally, that political system cannot come down to two biggest or leading parties that basically share a very similar demagogic view of the world and political solutions to problems in Serbia,” Djuric explained. He added that the LDP did not believe that the government would call early elections in the next two months. Political analyst Djordje Vukadinovic has assessed that the Progressives have enough reason to be satisfied because the rally was big and peaceful. In his opinion the SNS not only wanted to scare or warn the government about what might happen if it did not fulfill their requests but also to show the Serbian Radical Party (SRS) and the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) that they would be removed from Serbia's political scene unless they joined them. “I would say that these were the key motives of the rally. And it's actually hard to say which one was primary“, Vukadinovic concluded. (Beta)
