Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) leader Cedomir Jovanovic has stated that public companies are party offices and creators of crisis and insolvency. He has called for a debate on public companies and their transformation in the Serbian parliament. LDP leader on public companies “The Serbian government is a 100 percent owner of the biggest losers, Serbian Railways, Srbijagas, Serbian Power Company (EPS) which includes electric power plants and mines such as Kolubara, Jat Airways,” Jovanovic stressed. “The fact that party directors of Srbijagas, EPS and other companies put it on us every 15 days that they are operating at a loss because the government won’t allow them to raise monopolistic prices, is not an excuse for a disastrous state, negligence and inactivity in the companies’ management,” he wrote in the statement. He warned that the accumulated losses of the public sector were between EUR 4bn and EUR 5bn. “All public companies need to be ransacked to the ground. We have to know what they are producing, how much it costs and how much they charge the citizens,” the LDP leader stressed. “If this does not happen, instead of transparent and timely privatization the state will soon be forced to sell them at any cost, outside the market and competition,” he added.
