The Serbian government adopted the ministries’ answers to the European Commission (EC) questionnaire today. Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic will hand over the answers to the questionnaire to EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule on January 31, which will be another Serbia’s step toward the EU membership. Govt. adopts answers to questionnaire The questionnaire contains 2,483 questions divided in six annexes and 33 chapters. Serbian citizens had an opportunity to give their answers to 23 selected questions in an initiative organized by B92 and Belgrade Center for Human Rights. These answers will be handed over to Government Office for European Integration Head Milica Delevic today. The EC questionnaire (FoNet) "X-ray" The answers to the European Commission questionnaire that the Serbian government adopted Thursday are a real x-ray of Serbia and a good basis for the forthcoming negotiations on Serbia's application for European Union membership, Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration Bozidar Djelic said. He told a press conference after a government session that the answers are truthful and show that Serbia is far below European standards in some sectors. The questionnaire covers all elements of the forthcoming negotiations on membership between Serbia and the EU, Djelic noted. The answers were completed within a record 45 days, and one fifth of the questions concern security and legal freedoms, he said. The translation was done by 70 translators and about 37 volumes are currently being printed, he added. They will be presented to to EU Commissioner for Enlargement Stefan Fule in Brussels on January 31 by a Serbian delegation headed by Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic, Djelic said. The answers will be made public on the Serbian government website immediately after they are presented to the European Commission, he added.
