Assistant Foreign Minister Zdravko Ponos has said that regional cooperation is one of the government priorities, besides EU integration and Kosovo. “It is a general impression that the relations between the countries of the former Yugoslavia are at their highest point since the country's breakup, he told daily Press. “Regional cooperation one of our priorities” “This can be seen in Serbia's relations with Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and other countries of the region,” the assistant minister noted, adding that none of those relations were so good that they could not be improved. Speaking about international relations in general, Ponos stated that small countries like Serbia could not affect the way the global system worked and should simply recognize the pattern and adjust the way they intended to achieve their national interest. “The world has four centers of power today: the EU, the U.S., Russia and China. Those powers exist with or without us and we cannot change that, but we should instead adapt the way we mean to accomplish our interests," he pointed out. "As our EU integration moves forward, we will become more and more a part of the EU, but Russia will remain a strong pillar on which we build our policy," Ponos stressed. “The relations and cooperation with Russia have been improved, which is all indicated by the volume and trend of the two countries' economic cooperation and Russia's support for Serbia regarding Kosovo,” the assistant minister explained.
