Czech FM Karel Schwarzenberg said that talks between Belgrade and Pristina "would benefit the citizens of Serbia and Kosovo", as well as the entire region. The dialogue should resolve technical issues, which would benefit everyone, so that gradual progress could be achieved in "bilateral relations", Schwarzenberg told the Thursday edition of the daily Vecernje Novosti. "Entire region would benefit from dialogue" According to him, "the Copenhagen criteria, which require every country maintain good relations with its neighbors, play an important role in the process of European integration". Asked if the EU integration of the Western Balkans is progressing at a satisfactory pace, the minister said the process is "coming along". "One country after another is joining the EU. Some are maker faster, and some slower progress, but the process is coming along. The train keeps moving, sometimes at a lower speed, but it is still running. The most important thing is that it has not stopped," he said. "While the Czech Republic was presiding over the EU, it could be heard in some places that the EU integration process should stop after Croatia becomes a member. Thankfully, the enlargement idea is still alive," the minister pointed out. Asked about the issue of Kosovo, "which came between Belgrade and Prague at one point", Schwarzenberg said that relations between Serbia and the Czech Republic were "very good". "Belgrade knows we have always fought for Serbia in the EU. True, there was a brief period of misunderstanding after we recognized Kosovo, but that was the only thing that put a damper on our relations," he said. "This is now behind us, our relations are good," said the Czech minister. Karel Schwarzenberg (Beta, file)
