The central celebration of Christmas Eve in Kosovo and Metohija was held in the St. Demetrios Church in Kosovska Mitrovica, northern Kosovo. Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Bozidar Djelic, who attended the celebration, pointed out that 2011 will be the year of Serbia's strong efforts aimed at European integration and fight for Kosovo. Christmas marked in towns in Kosovo “Our fair fight for Kosovo and Metohija continues. This is the eve for reconciliation and support to the Serb people in Kosovo and Metohija,” Djelic stated. "In the fight for Serbia's rights in KiM, we will make use of the latest events in relation to the changes in various administration fields and the report on illegal human organ trafficking in Kosovo and Metohija, drafted by Special Rapporteur of the Council of Europe Dick Marty," Djelic was quoted as saying. The Christmas Eve celebration was attended by Minister for Kosovo Goran Bogdanovic, the ministry's State Secretary Oliver Ivanovic, Head of the Kosovska Mitrovica District Radenko Nedeljkovic, the municipal leadership and numerous Orthodox Serb worshipers. Christmas in Prizren The central celebration of Christmas in Kosovo and Metohija south of the Ibar River and the Serb-dominated north of the province was held in the partially reconstructed St. George Church in Prizren where Bishop of Raska-Prizren Teodosije served liturgy. The church was destroyed in 2004 by ethnic Albanian extremists. Together with believers from all parts of Kosovo, the Christmas Liturgy was attended by Bozidar Djelic, who expressed satisfaction over the announcements that the Prizren Seminary may reopen in the time to come, which would help Orthodoxy take deeper root in the town. It is very important to work on definite bases that would enable people to return to Kosovo-Metohija, and mixed diplomatic action and tangible moves in the field could secure the possibility of return for displaced persons, the minister said. Djelic expressed expectation that the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue would start soon, with the help of the European Union (EU), and that the talks would first focus on the issues that trouble the people living in Kosovo-Metohija. However, he believes that the talks would eventually arrive at the most important point, that of Kosovo's status. Djelic said that Serbia will continue advocating a policy of peace, and also a policy that would at any time defend the national interest and the interests of the people living in Kosovo-Metohija. Serbia's policy toward Kosovo has not changed, Djelic said and underscored that Serbia would never recognize Kosovo. Serbia is also well-aware that it needs to find a solution to the Kosovo issue so that the country could join the EU, and Prisatina is facing the same situation, as it will never be able to access the EU unless it first finds a way to reach a compromise with Serbia, Djelic said.
