Serbia will pay less than EUR 30mn, instead of almost EUR 40mn, to Israeli ImageSat company for the lease of one of its satellites, B92 has learned. Representatives of the Serbian government have managed to significantly reduce the country’s debt during negotiations with the Israeli company. Serbia to pay less in Satellite Affair The negotiations were led by Foreign Ministry Political Director Borko Stefanovic and details of the agreement, which will solve the five-year-long dispute, will be released during the day. B92 has learned that the Israeli company will also provide some equipment for the Serbian Army (VS) and police. The Satellite Affair began when then Defense Minister Prvoslav Davinic signed the contract to lease one of ImageSat’s satellites in 2005. Serbia tried to contest the validity of the contract but it lost the case before the International Court of Arbitration in London. The former defense minister is currently standing trial on charges of abuse of office.
