Parliament "nearly completes" answers to EC

The Serbian parliament is in the final stages of completing its responses to the questions the European Commission (EC) included in its questionnaire.

The Serbian parliament is in the final stages of completing its responses to the questions the European Commission (EC) included in its questionnaire. They refer to the country's highest legislative body, Chairman of the European Integration Committee Laslo Varga stated on Tuesday. Parliament "nearly completes" answers to EC At a meeting with European Parliament (EP) Rapporteur for Serbia Jelko Kacin, Varga said that the parliament's European Integration Committee will review answer drafts drawn up by the parliament service, after which the response will be submitted to the Serbian Government Office for European Integration and work coordinator, the parliament stated in a release. The Committee is looking to improve the cooperation between the Serbian parliament and the EP, Varga said. Kacin said that the EP will ratify the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) with Serbia on January 19, and will also vote on the draft resolution on Serbia's European integration. According to Kacin, the EP will call on the parliaments of all EU member states to ratify the SAA with Serbia as soon as possible, if they have not done so by now. Kacin underscored the importance of the role which the parliament will have in the forthcoming stages of Serbia's EU accession, and assessed that it is crucial for Serbia to strengthen its international activities and increase the presence of its top officials in EU institutions, especially when it comes to the states which should chair the EU in the time to come.
