One of the newly-elected deputy presidents of the ruling Democrats (DS) says the party election held over the weekend was not flawed. Jelena Trivan told B92 TV late on Sunday that "there was no scandal" during the party assembly in Belgrade, "because there were no irregularities". Democrats: Voting glitch, but no irregularities Dragan Djilas, Dusan Petrovic, Bojan Pajtic, Dragan Sutanovac, and Trivan were elected vice presidents, while the sixth candidate for vice president, Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic, fell out of the race. Boris Tadic was reelected party leader as the only candidate running. Trivan said that she saw nothing problematic in the fact that the voting took hours, as the computer system failed. "That was over relatively quickly without any scandals and without any objections, so that all candidates, those who lost and those who won, signed it, and confirmed it was an utterly regular and normal election," said this DS official. The technical problems, she continued, were "above all horribly unpleasant", but did not bring into question the outcome of the voting. Electro-Technical Faculty Professor Srbijanka Turajlic agreed there were "no elements of scandal", but said the electronic system failure was "seriously embarrassming" for a party that should "lead this country forward". Center for New Politics Director Vladimir Todoric took part in the same program to say that the DS electoral assembly was "a fiasco and a mockery of democracy". He described the party as immersed in "leader-based manner, and ritual and theatrical way of organizing assemblies, without real debates and criticism". What Todoric saw as scandalous was the fact that out of 3,000 party representatives present at the gathering, only one signed up to take part in the debate. Jelena Trivan (Tanjug)
