Kosovo Ministry State Secretary Oliver Ivanovic says there is a possibility that the elections in Kosovo could deepen divisions within the Serbian community. “Unfortunately, representatives of Kosovo Serbs who are running in the elections either did not see this or did not want to see it,” he told Novi Sad-based daily Dnevnik. “Elections to deepen divisions” According to him, neither the Serbian government nor the Serbs in northern Kosovo will bear responsibility for that but “solely the Serbs south of the Ibar River who decided to solve the problem without their country”. “Generally it’s good when somebody want to take responsibility for their own destiny, but trouble is that the weak and the ignorant have gotten into something very serious this time,” the state secretary pointed out. Stressing that Hashim Thaci was quite certainly going to win and that he would include some Serbs into his ruling coalition, Ivanovic explained that it would additionally polarize the Serbs south of the Ibar River and “as a final result we will have a complete fragmentation of the Serbian body politic in Kosovo”.
