Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) leader Cedomir Jovanovic has stated that it is necessary to finish judicial reform using the same principles as in the beginning. He stressed that it was necessary to fix the mistakes and accept suggestions of the EU and that implementation of those proposals would make the Serbian judiciary more efficient. LDP calls for completion of judicial reform The European Commission (EC) has criticized the way judges were re-elected in Serbia. The EC said that one of the problems was the fact that judges who had not been re-elected did not receive individual explanations. According to the LDP leader, those who are against the judicial reform are actually responsible for “a disastrous state” in the judiciary, which was destroyed by political abuse during the 90’s. “We cannot stick our heads in the sand before the fact that the judiciary during Milosevic-Seselj coalition was divided according to party quotas and destroyed by the famous 66-33 percent system,” he said regarding the election of judges during that time. Jovanovic has announced that his party will on Tuesday request parliament to adopt EC's suggestions regarding the judicial reform. He points out that statement of Consitutional Court of Serbia President Bosa Nenadic that it would take at least three years before the judges who were not re-elected could get response to their appeals is unacceptable. “In those appeals we recognize ambition to obstruct the judicial reform and permanently keep the abeyance in judiciary,“ the LDP leader concluded.
