Belgrade – Former Liberal-Democratic Party (LDP) member of the parliament, Slobodan Maras, said today that he had joined the ruling G17 Plus. Maras said that the move came because G17 Plus, as a member of the United Regions of Serbia, stands for decentralization and regionalization. LDP MP joins ruling party “This political option can answer the needs of people of Novi Sad, Vojvodina and Serbia in the right way, since it emphasizes equal development of all the parts of our country, instead of a centralization of government and power,“ Maras said. “My joining G17 Plus and the United Regions of Serbia should above all be regarded as my acceptance of ideas and programs, and we should join forces and do everything in our power to make the regionalization and decentralization idea come to life, so that everyone can prosper,“ Maras was quoted as saying. He pointed out that he was not given a position in his new party, and that the decision was “absolutely an act of free will.“ “I don’t want to sit on any administrative boards, nor to have a position in state-owned companies. In G17 Plus and the United Regions of Serbia I will primarily be dedicated to building the infrastructure in Vojvodina, and I’ll do that by being the head of the campaign headquarters“ Maras pointed out. The former LDP MP returned his parliament mandate to the party, because, as he said, keeping it was against basic ethic and democratic principles. Yesterday, LDP said is a statement that Maras was leaving the party for personal and family reasons. LDP MP Ivan Andric told reporters that there were no political conflicts or misunderstanding between the party and its former official.
