Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Vincent Degert says that Serbia must make progress in several areas in order to meet challenges from the yearly report. Degert pointed out that it was important to establish the rule of law, an independent justice system, fight corruption, solve the problem of public procurements, respect human rights, ensure macroeconomic stability and create a positive market and investment environment, as well as pass and properly implement laws. Degert: Serbia should make progress in several areas He noted that improving regional cooperation and cooperation with the Hague Tribunal i.e. the continued search for the remaining two indictees was of particular importance for Serbia. Degert said Serbia should look to Montenegro which was recommended for candidate status by the EC, and noted that Serbia made a lot of progress toward the EU over the last year, mentioning the visa liberalization, the application for EU membership and the ratification of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) as some of the positive steps. Deputy Head of the Serbian government EU Integration Office Srdjan Majstorovic noted that the latest progress report was a roadmap with guidelines on which areas to focus on. He said that an action plan was currently being prepared that would incorporate the EC recommendations, including institutions, measures and deadlines for implementation. The questionnaire should be delivered to Serbia next week and the EC will issue an opinion on Serbia's EU candidacy based on Serbia's response, it was said at the conference.
