Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic says that that unlike Belgrade, Pristina is still not ready for a dialogue, at least not before elections in the province. “Our government was unanimous in its call to our citizens not to take part in the elections, because the elections were not called in keeping with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244, according to which only the chief of the UNMIK can call them, which he failed to do,” Jeremic said in the central Serbian town of Cacak late on Wednesday. FM: Pristina still not ready for dialogue The minister underscored that the official Belgrade's stand is clear. “We shall never recognize the unilaterally declared independence by Kosovo. We will use all diplomatic and political means to find compromising and rational solutions." According to Jeremic, talks can start on less contentious topics, such as the missing persons or mine clearing along the administrative line. "In that way a better atmosphere can be created for more serious talks," he noted. Jeremic also said that the Belgrade-Pristina talks will be held under the umbrella of the United Nations and with mediation of EULEX (European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo), making sure that the status of Kosovo and Metohija is in keeping with Resolution 1244. Jeremic reiterated that Serbia will continue to block accession of the self-proclaimed Kosovo in various international organizations. The status of Kosovo was confirmed with UNSC Resolution 1244, while the Security Council itself is the only body that has the legitimacy for it, he stated. "After the ICJ ruling and the UN General Assembly resolution adoption, many expected a large number of recognitions of Kosovo to happen. We can see that this did not happen," he observed. Jeremic will today travel to London for a one-day visit, during which he will meet with British Foreign Secretary William Hague. After his meeting with Hague, Jeremic is scheduled to give a lecture at the London School of Economics, the Serbian Foreign Ministry said in a statement in Belgrade on Thursday.
