Serbian Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac is attending Halifax International Security Forum organized by the Canadian government and German Marshall Fund. The Halifax International Security Forum is one of the three most important international conferences on global security challenges. Defense minister attends international security forum More than 400 participants from 39 countries, among them many defense ministers, foreign ministers, secretary of states and representatives of civilian society, are attending the forum. The Serbian defense minister took part in the forum's plenary session on modern challenges, risks and threats and held a presentation at the panel on security in the Western Balkans region together with representatives of Montenegro and Croatia. On the margins of the forum Sutanovac met with Canadian, Danish and Albanian defense ministers, U.S. under secretary of defense for policy and German state secretary for defence. Sutanovac informed them on reforms in the Serbian defense system, completion of the profesionalization of armed forces and future plans, especially regarding the issues of regional security. The meeting also discussed continuation and improvement of present bilateral cooperation. The Serbian defense minister told Voice of America (VOA) that it was extremely important for the Serbian delegation to participate in the forum because it was an opportunity to hold important bilateral meetings and discuss global security risks and threats. “I must say that all those risks are practically overflowing to our country and that it is extremely important to monitor those risks and threats from the very beginning and cooperate in exchange of information about how we can avoid them,” he stressed. Sutanovac has announced that he will travel to the U.S. after Canada and have meeings in Pentagon and the Department of State. He also added that he would speak to head of the U.S. National Guard General Craig McKinley.
