President Boris Tadic said the state will do everything it can to help people in Kraljevo and other areas affected by the earthquake. "The government will do everything it can to procure construction material, of which there is plenty, from storage facilities," said Tadic who underscored that for now it is necessary to repair houses and apartments damaged in the earthquake. The president told B92 while touring the central Serbia town that he will work within his powers to spur the government to do its part of the job, to avoid repeating previous situations when action did not follow promises given in the wake of natural disasters. Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic, attending a Crisis Committee meeting in Kraljevo, said that the government will immediately provide Kraljevo with RSD5 million in short-term aid to deal with the consequences of the earthquake. After the committee meeting, which was also attended by Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac and Health Minister Tomica Milosavljevic, Cvetkovic said that the government will also provide long-term aid once the damage is fully assessed. The prime minister said that government would provide Kraljevo with building material, furniture and clothes, in agreement with the Crisis Committee. Oliver Dulic, head of the government commission for natural disasters, said that the most pressing damage caused by the earthquake in Kraljevo will be repaired before winter and the rest over the coming months, and that citizens need not worry as the country will help them. In the town itself, the damage from the earthquake, which measured 5.4 on the Richter scale and killed two people, is yet to be assessed. Many citizens spent last night in the homes of their friends and family. A commission has closed down some 100 structures as unsafe.
