Serbian parliament speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic says that parliament is ready to discuss the Law on Pension and Disability Insurance. Representatives of five unions and the government will continue negotiations regarding requested changes to the law since they did not reach an agreement yesterday. Pension bill on parliament agenda soon Head of the unions’ negotiating team Miodrag Mijatovic says that the unions have not given up on their requests and that the government has also showed a good will to find a solution. “We expect to reach a deal that will result in signing of the agreement today and after that the law will be returned to the Serbian parliament for further debate,” he pointed out and added that the biggest problem was indexation of pensions. Parliament is ready to discuss the law and Djukic-Dejanovic expects that it will soon be on the agenda. “The unionists’ objections were that pensions must not by any means drop drastically at the moment. I think that a result of the agreement has already been achieved in this field. The second request was how many years of employment women should have, who really bear the biggest burden both in time of transition and within family and in everything else. And whether somebody should respect the fact that women are both mothers and pillars of family. I’m with the unionists on this, but we should see what the result will be,” the parliament speaker explained. Parliament is ready to discuss the law and Đukić-Dejanović expects that it will soon be on the agenda.
