Serbia's application to be granted status of candidate for membership in the EU will be on the agenda of EU ministers on October 25. This has been announced by Belgian Foreign Minister Steven Vanackere. EU ministers on candidate bid on Oct. 25 He spoke for Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti to say that the issue of forwarding Serbia's bid to the European Commission will be on the agenda of the ministerial meeting to be held in Luxembourg. Vanackere however would not predict the outcome of the debate. "Know that the Belgian presidency is doing all it can to reach the necessary consensus among the member-states as soon as possible," the Belgian official was quoted as saying. He also warned that sensibilities of all members, including Holland, must be taken into account as well. In Belgrade, British Ambassador Stephen Wordsworth stated that EU countries offered clear support for Serbia's EU bid, but that this process could take time, and reminded of the fact that it took Finland and Sweden three years to join, while Turkey's road toward membership has been ongoing for 27 years.
