EU, NATO and Serbia have, with consent from the government in Pristina, reached an agreement to combat organized crime in N. Kosovo, Belgrade daily Danas says. According to the report, the agreement includes arrests of those responsible for crimes and corruption. "EULEX, KFOR, Serbia agree on arrests" EULEX and KFOR are preparing an extensive operation aiming to arrest suspects in serious criminal acts in northern Kosovska Mitrovica and surrounding area, the daily has learned. A man suspected of several serious crimes, whose identity has not been revealed yet and for whom there had been an international arrest warrant, was arrested by EULEX members in Kosovska Mitrovica yesterday. Dejan Vulovic who is, among other things, suspected of murder was arrested on Monday. According to the daily’s diplomatic sources from Brussels, Belgrade and Pristina, it was determined during meetings of Serbian President Boris Tadic and EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy Catherine Ashton that it was necessary to deal with organized crime leaders, meaning to “finally establish law and order and ensure safety of all citizens”. Tadic and Ashton’s cabinets in cooperation with EULEX and Serbian police (MUP) and support from NATO are in charge of implementation of the informal political agreement. The daily’s police sources say that Serbian security services are not involved in any operations in the territory of Kosovo and that they are providing support at the administrative line based on Belgrade’s political consent given to EULEX and KFOR to start arresting those behind the most serious criminal acts against the safety of citizens.
