Education unions to meet with PM "After the talks, we will know what steps to take in the education system reform," Obradovic said at a meeting of the Education Union of Serbia. On August 26 Obradovic met with representatives of the Association of Education Workers' Union (USPRS), the Education Union of Serbia, the Independence Education Workers' Union and the Union of Workers in Education to discuss unfreezing salaries, increasing the education system's share in the GDP, reinstating awards and bonuses for 10, 20 and 30 years of work in education, and the government's failure to implement USRSR's program for a stable education system. Obradovic said then that there is willingness to improve the standing of education workers', but that economic policy, negotiations with the IMF and the state of the economy over the next four years will determine whether this is possible. Obradovic said that the talks with the four unions' representatives were dominated by calls for higher salaries, but that there was no haggling over percentages, as everyone realizes that possible raises depend on the state of the budget, economic policy and the talks with the IMF.
