Analyst Nexhmedin Spahiu said that there is no decentralization in northern Kosovo because Pristina has no access to the region. “As long as Belgrade continues behaving like it is now, there will be nothing of that process,” he said. Analyst: No decentralization in northern Kosovo “I doubt that the Kosovo government even wants to establish control in northern Kosovo, because I see no serious effort, especially in the last three, four years, there has been little interest in establishing rule in northern Kosovo,” Spahiu said. Despite the many conflicts that have occurred recently in Kosovska Mitrovica, contact between the people of the south and north of the city exists, he said, adding that the incidents are a result of the poor approach to this question. “Contact was established immediately after the war. So there is contact, and a desire by the majority of the population to normalize the situation and relations between the residents of the south and north,” Spahiu said. He warned that the policies being led by Belgrade and Pristina, even by the international community, have not contributed anything to the decentralization process. Spahiu said that the policies being led towards northern Kosovo go against the interests of the people living there and lead to a further deterioration of the situation.
