Kosovo Albanianas are focusing their diplomatic efforts on garnering new recognitions of Kosovo’s unilaterally proclaimed independence, say reports. Kosovo Albanian officials stated that they are preparing a large number of meetings with officials of countries that have yet to recognize Kosovo. "Pristina lobbies for new recognitions" “The opinion of the ICJ will speed up new recognitions of Kosovo’s independence. The opinion opens a new perspective for Kosovo joining important international organizations,” Kosovo assembly speaker Jakup Krasniqi told daily Kosova Sot. “Our goal is to increase the number of recognitions, because after the ICJ decision, there is no dilemma that the independence of Kosovo is in accordance with international law,” Deputy Prime Minister Hajredin Kuqi said. He told daily Koha Ditore that Serbia’s announcements of a new UN resolution for restarting status negotiations “can have no effects now.” Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci is currently in America, where he is meeting with U.S. senior officials who promised that they would help in the process of garnering new recognitions. Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu said earlier that Kosovo would try to become a member of the United Nations next year.
