Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic has stated that there are no divisions in the government and that there will be no early elections that the opposition demands. “It is understandable that the opposition wants to overthrow the government. They have fought for that from the very first day the government was elected. In theory, if it came to discrepancies in the goals of the coalition partners, there would be no majority in the parliament." PM says govt. united, no need for elections "I do not expect that to happen. We are united,” Cvetkovic said in an interview for the Friday edition of the Belgrade-based daily Vecernje Novosti. When asked whether the government's reconstruction is still on the agenda, Cvetkovic said that the government was composed of parties that people elected, and that it will remain the way it is. According to him, criticism levied at the government is mostly of political type. “Most of the criticism is motivated only by personal interests. The constructive criticism, which is much less voiced, is considered with due attention and followed by an attempt to address the issues,” the prime minister stated. Cvetkovic said that the drop in living standard during the last year is a remark that the government cannot deny. “The reasons of lower living standard are a drop in the GDP that triggered the crisis, and it is a fact that the expenditures were much higher than revenues. We have put a stop to that kind of practice. We have to spend only as much as our economic capacities allow us to,” Cvetkovic said.
