A day of mourning has been declared in Kosovska Mitrovica for Mesud Dzekovic, the pediatrician who died in a blast on Friday in the city. An explosive device was thrown among a group of protesting Serbs in northern Kosovska Mitrovica on Friday, killing Dzekovic and injuring 11 others. Day of mourning in Kosovska Mitrovica According to reports, there were no incidents on Friday night in the ethnically divided city, with KFOR officials patrolling the northern, Serb-populated section over night. There is still no information on the motive behind the attack on the peaceful protests, with police stating that they hope that there will be new information soon that would help them solve the case. The Kosovska Mitrovica District of four municipalities in the north of Kosovo—Mitrovica, Zvecan, Leposavic and Zubin Potok—has declared July 3 as a day of mourning. Serbian Minister for Kosovo Goran Bogdanovic visited Dzekovic’s family on Friday night and expressed to them condolences on behalf of Serbian President Boris Tadic. Bogdanovic also visited those injured in the blast, stating that the tragedy could have been avoided with the will of the international community and the ethnic Albanian leadership in Kosovo. Tadic will travel to New York on Tuesday to attend an emergency UN Security Council meeting regarding these recent incidents in Kosovo. (Tanjug)
