PM meets with Chinese counterpart

The Serbian and Chinese prime ministers, Mirko Cvetkovic and Wen Jiabao, met this Friday in Hangzhou, China. The two premiers stated that mutual political trust between Belgrade and Beijing is basis for fostering strategic partnership between the two countries. PM meets with Chinese counterpart After the meeting with Wen, Cvetkovic underscored in a statement for Tanjug that it has been agreed that the two countries should continue their economic cooperation, particularly in the domain of economy, infrastructure, agriculture, science, technology and culture. According to Cvetkovic, the Chinese prime minister stated that China will not alter its policy of support to the territorial integrity of Serbia, while Cvetkovic reiterated Serbia's support to the One China policy. "The Chinese prime minister reiterated China's principled stand regarding Serbia's territorial integrity, and added that the country backs the honoring of international right and resolving all open issues via dialogue," Cvetkovic said. He added that he was assured that his Chinese hosts will have a constructive role in respect of the Kosovo issue. China is one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council with the right of veto that have not recognized the unilateral proclamation of the independence of Kosovo. Earlier on Friday, Cvetkovic conferred with Chairman of China's National People's Congress Wu Bangguo. During the meeting it was stated that the two countries' relations are good, that their cooperation is based on traditional friendship, but that there is room for further improvement, particularly in the economic area. Cvetkovic and Wu agreed that there is strategic partnership between China and Serbia. It was also stated that official Beijing supports Serbia's territorial integrity, whereas Cvetkovic said that official Belgrade firmly and unambiguously supports China's policy and that it will keep supporting it. It was announced that Wu will visit Belgrade in July, where he will attend the laying of foundations for the Zemun-Borca bridge on the Danube River, which will be constructed by China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC). Cvetkovic began his four-day visit to China on Thursday by meeting Chinese Deputy Prime Minister Hui Liangyu and representatives of large Chinese companies. Following these meetings, the prime minister told Tanjug that Chinese companies are interested in cooperating with Serbian partners, particularly in the area of energy and infrastructure. According to him, China is also interested in investing in hydro power plants, and there were discussions on greenfield investments in Serbia as well. The aim of Cvetkovic's visit to China, with which Serbia has had a long-lasting friendship and mutual support, is to improve political cooperation and economic relations between the two countries, with the emphasis on opening prospects for mutual investments in Serbian and Chinese markets. Cvetkovic will attend the ceremony of Serbia's National Pavilion Day at Expo 2010 Shanghai on June 27.
