Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) leader Tomislav Nikolic that if his party came into power, Serbia’s relations with the EU would not change. “It is much easier to talk with the EU if it knows that a change of government would not change the Serbian government’s orientation toward the EU,” Nikolic said. “SNS won’t change EU stance” He said that he and his deputy would be traveling to Brussels soon to “continue the continuity of contact” with the European Enlargement Commissioner. “This government will negotiate more easily, the conditions will be easier, and there will be no blackmailing. The EU will not interfere in the elections, it will not be important which of the two rivals wins, since both have the same stance. It would all be easier if the Democrats would see politics as a competition in which everyone has the same conditions,” Nikolic said. Regarding the announcements that the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) between Serbia and EU is expected to begin its ratification next week, Nikolic said that all progress towards the EU is positive. However, he said that Serbia “is standing in one place,” adding that relations with the EU and relations in Serbia are the same, in the sense that “nothing concrete is happening.” He said that he and a majority of citizens have no idea how the negotiations between Serbia and the EU are going. “What stands behind this and is it beneficial or not? I think that it is not, and that we have lost precious time and are increase the amount of time during which Serbia will not be able to join the EU,” he said. “The moment when it will begin coming back to the citizens is not coming. It is important for this agreement to be more than words on paper after which there will be another 10 years of EU integration,” Nikolic said. “If the agreement is unfrozen, it will be a relief and it will be presented in the media as a good thing, but I would like it to return to the Serbian citizens one day with a better standard, employment, security, and a government that would be under the EU’s control, and would not be corrupted or full of crime,” Nikolic said.
