Opposition parties say they're "now rivals"

After a statement from opposition SNS leader Tomislav Nikolic that they want to take away voters from DSS, the party has stated that SNS have no become rivals. Both the Serb Progressive Party (SNS) leader Nikolic and Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) officials have confirmed that they are battling for voters now and are rivals. Opposition parties say they're "now rivals" The idea of a united opposition is drifting further from realization. Disagreement between the two leading parties of the opposition escalated when Nikolic told daily Blic that SNS wants to take away DSS voters from the party. “I am not n coalition with the DSS and (leader) Vojislav Kostunica, so I can’t take or steal anything from him. We did not agree on a coalition. We are political rivals. Just as we want to take votes away from (DS leader) Boris Tadic, I say the same thing to Kostunica,” Nikolic said. DSS spokesman Petar Petkovic said that even though SNS and DSS have signed a cooperation agreement, Nikolic has made DSS and DS seem equal in their eyes. “The only united goal will be to have early parliamentary elections announced. In all other questions SNS is DSS’s political rival, by the will of SNS’s leader,” Petkovic said. “This is the market. This is democracy. This is all normal. They cannot be angry that we have more voters in the voter population. It is completely illusionary. It is unbelievable. This is a normal thing,” SNS deputy leader Aleksandar Vucic told B92. It is still unclear what DSS coalition partner, New Serbia (NS), will be doing, since its leader Velimir Ilic was not available for comment. NS has tried on several occasions to broker an agreement between SNS and DSS, but has never mentioned cutting off cooperation with its closest partner DSS. DSS claims that relations with NS remain excellent, but did not want to speculate on the further actions of Ilic and NS if the rift between DSS and SNS begins to deepen.
