President Boris Tadic today attended ceremonies to mark the national Remembrance Day of Genocide Victims in WW2. He spoke at one of the memorial sites in the Serbian capital to say that Serbia remains determined in the fight against fascism, Nazism and all other ideologies that propagate evil and violence. “Serbia determined to fight ideologies of evil” Tadic told journalists that Serbia has to be the main promoter of such a policy in the region so as to secure a true reconciliation in the West Balkan region. “Now that we are witnessing attempts of revision of the Second World War and endeavors to transform the ideology of fascism and Nazism into some new ideologies of evil and violence, it is extremely important that every state launches a resolute fight against such a policy,” Tadic said. The president underlined that the Roma and Jewish people, who along with Serbs, were the victims of the mass executions in Jajinci, near Belgrade, continue to be victims of segregation and provocations in many countries in the world. "The Republic of Serbia will do everything in its might to help the Roma people promote their own culture and get international affirmation," Tadic said. Discussing the current problems of the Jewish population Tadic said that the reaction of state institutions to the publishing of anti-Semitic books is not strong enough. "Our state institutions have to react in such cases. The prohibition of books that incite Nazism, violence and anti-Semitism is the standard of civilization in every democratic country," Tadic stated. He recalled that in the last century, Serbs fell victim of a racist policy based on evil and violence, but pointed out however, that some Serbs, acting on the behalf of the nation, also “made mistakes". "We have made an apology and expressed sympathy for all those mistakes, crimes and dreadful deeds. We expect that everyone else will have the same approach, and that at the level of their top state institutions, they will have the courage to express their grief for the victims and misfortunes that took place not only in this or previous years, but also in the entire twentieth century," Tadic said. Today, Serbia is the pillar of peace and stability in this part of Europe, and the whole world can continue to count on it in that respect, the president concluded.
