The Center for Free Elections and Democracy (CeSID) says it for the first time saw indecision in its surveys as respondents named the part they support. This concerns the choice between the country's two most popular parties that have been running neck-and-neck in the polls for months: the ruling Democrats (DS), and the opposition Serb Progressives (SNS). “Voters begin to hesitate between DS, SNS” Belgrade daily Danas reports that CeSID Director Marko Blagojevic stated the percentage was currently small but that it was “fairly certain that it would grow in time”. He believes that SNS had become socially acceptable due to their European orientation and that from that perspective “the growth of SNS should not be interpreted as coming out of the blue”. “By collecting over a million signatures from citizens (who support early elections), they showed that took over from the Serb Radical Party (SRS) and that they now represent the strongest opposition party in Serbia instead,” the CeSID director pointed out. Blagojevic also told the newspaper that he believed it was not realistic to expect early elections in the next 12 months, and added that he was “pretty sure that this would not happen before next spring”. “DS will not call elections in a situation which doesn’t suit them. When Serbia receives a candidate status for membership in the EU, that could be a big per-election potential for the Democrats and parties in their coalition,” Blagojevic explained.
