Ministry for Kosovo State Secretary Oliver Ivanovic said that the EU is turning Kosovo into a “second Cyprus” and would have to accept it as such. “Lamentations could be arriving from Brussels, such as: We don’t need a new Cyprus. But, if they really want the region to be under the wing of the EU, there is no other solution. Also, they are the ones who have created the ‘second Cyprus',” he told Novi Sad daily Dnevnik. “EU making Cyprus out of Kosovo” Ivanovic was also quoted as saying that the countries that have recognized Kosovo are always saying that there is no going back, that there can be no “freezing of the conflict” or new negotiations over the province's status. “If Kosovo’s status were so cemented, these same countries would not be suggesting models such as ‘Two Germanys’, ‘China and Taiwan’, or ‘Ireland and Great Britain'. Therefore, it is clear to them that they have not finished the job, and it won't be possible to finish it, until Serbia agrees to some kind of solution,” he said. Ivanovic said that dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina could be successful if it was initiated by the EU or U.S., because they have the most influence on the “daily ponderings and decision of the (Kosovo Albanian) government in Pristina”. He reiterated that Serbia will never recognize Kosovo’s unilaterally declared independence and announced that both officials from Belgrade and Pristina would participate in the Sarajevo Western Balkans conference on June 1 only if the Kosovo Albanian delegation were to be represented as “UNMIK-Kosovo” or “Kosovo under (UNSC) Resolution 1244”.
