“Friendly relations between Serbia, Libya”

Serbian President Boris Tadic said that friendly relations between Serbia and Libya were confirmed during his talks with President Muammar Gadaffi. Tadic said that he and Gadaffi talked about Kosovo, but also economic cooperation between the two countries. “Friendly relations between Serbia, Libya” The Serbian President said that he has deep respect for Libya’s decision not to recognize Kosovo’s independence. “I appreciate greatly the fact that Libya has not recognized Kosovo, nor will it, and I respect the fact that Libya participated with its own letter in the process before the International Court of Justice. We are now waiting for the ICJ’s decision, and then we will hold consultations on what to do in the future,” Tadic said. He added that Serbia wants to continue the fight for preserving its integrity in a way that is founded on good intentions, in order to restart negotiations regarding Kosovo’s status and find a solution of compromise. He said that five years after his first meeting with Gadaffi, the amount of trade between the two countries has increased by ten percent, but added that he has agreed with Gadaffi to bring that up to 100 percent over the next five years. “Several fields are very attractive for economic cooperation. These are the fields of agriculture, the pharmaceutical industry, the transfer of technology and knowledge from the medicinal field, cooperation in military health sectors, the defense industry, and of course we talked about the possibility of our companies participating in the future in tenders for the production and sale of locomotives and passenger and cargo wagons,” Tadic said. The two also discussed the former Yugoslavia’s outstanding debts to Libya and the question of succession. Tadic said that the issue must be solved quickly, so that relations between the two countries can continue to improve.
