Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac says he "could not say whether we are closer or further away from the completion of our cooperation with the Hague Tribunal". But he added that "it is certain that serious efforts are being made to complete the work". "Serious efforts to complete cooperation" “It is sad that we did not have an opportunity to have those people stand trial in our country, but the system of values that should take us towards Serbia's European future also implies resolution of the tragedy that went on in the territory of the former Yugoslavia for years,” said Sutanovac. Sutanovac said that this also includes the declaration on Srebrenica adopted by the Serbian parliament. "I am certain that is an important moment for Serbia's future and I know that there will always be some people who would not want things to change," he told Belgrade-based Objektiv magazine. When asked what his answer is to the "dilemma", Kosovo or the European Union, and "why we set this dilemma ourselves without anyone else asking us to do so", Sutanovac replied: “It is important to always bear in mind that five member states of the EU and four NATO member states have yet to recognize the independence of Kosovo and Metohija. That is why I believe that such a question will never be put forward to Serbia. I don't believe that Serbia will ever be brought before such a decision." The minister also said that he expects Serbia's mission at NATO in Brussels to be open in the coming months, underscoring that the military part of the mission had been fully drafted. “It is a great pity that Serbia has not fully participated in the Partnership for Peace program from late 2006 to date, and the belief that we may continue to progress if we remain out of the project in which Russia has forty representatives in NATO's headquarters is naïve,” said Sutanovac.
