American diplomat James Steinberg said that he is encouraged by Serbia’s progress on its path towards European integration. The U.S. deputy secretary of state announced that he would visit the Western Balkans in the coming week, adding that the current American administration is dedicated to stability and prosperity in the Balkans. U.S. diplomat “encouraged by progress” Steinberg added that he is encouraged to see Belgrade officials assured him that Serbia is aware of the importance of its cooperation with the Hague Tribunal. He said that "relations between Belgrade and Pristina" will also be discussed as he meets with Serbian officials. Steinberg reiterated America’s stance that the unilateral proclamation of Kosovo independence has "contributed to stability in the region".
