We will work and cooperate with the representatives of the people, who will make us aware of the concrete needs of the community,” Giffoni was quoted as saying. According to the newspaper, he added that the EU was trying to work based on its own goals and from its own point of view, "in the entire territory of Kosovo, which includes the north", adding that the EU is not trying to “impose some institutional presence” in the north. “The EU is merely trying to work based on its goals and its point of view on the entire territory of Kosovo, including the north. Therefore, there is no need to draw conclusions on whether we are working for or against someone. The EU is working based only on its own goals,” Giffoni said. According to the article, the diplomat said that the EU "does not have any special plans for northern Kosovo". “The EU has its goals, we identified several clear directions that can lead us toward fulfilling these goals. Our goals there are the same as they are in all of Kosovo, not only in the north,” he said. “What the EU demands is stability, better administration, security, the rule of law, and an improvement in the social-economic situation of the people,” he said. Giffoni was also quoted as saying that there were no deadline for EU’s "action" in the north, adding that "our plan has only crystallized the goals and needs of how to slowly and pragmatically move ahead… For us presence is not the only thing that is important, we want to work concretely and to be as close to the community as possible,” he said. The Italian diplomat was also reported to have said that he was "convinced that talks between Belgrade and Pristina will be held regarding northern Kosovo".
