Members of the parliamentary defense and security committee will meet on Monday to discuss the state’s fight against organized crime. The Serb Radical Party (SRS) and Democratic Party (DS) disagree on what the meeting should be focusing on. Security committee to meet Monday Since the accusations of controversial businessman Stanko Subotic regarding his role in the privatization of the Belgrade Port and other companies was left out of the agenda, both parties believe that the meeting will be held on Monday. SRS officials Dragan Todorovic said that his demand to discuss the Subotic claims was justified. “It is clear that organized crime, along with tycoons and politicians, participated in most of the privatization activities in Serbia over the last ten years, that this privatization was robbery and that this privatization had money invested into it that was earned through crime, mostly through the smuggling of cigarettes and drugs,” Todorovic said. DS stated that the committee controls the work of the security services in Serbia and that it cannot deal with concrete cases. “We do not deal with individual statements, especially not from people who are indicted. Therefore, it is my opinion that the committee should not work in that way, but should deal with the analysis of the work of state institutions and whether there are legal conditions and other conditions present for the successful fight against organized crime,” DS official Marko Djurisic said. The ruling coalition submitted an initiative last week for dismissing Todorovic as committee president. Todorovic scheduled a session to discuss the initiative on Tuesday. However, DS stated that it will be discussed on Monday, because a new meeting of the parliament will begin on Tuesday and many of the MPs will have to be in the parliamentary hall to attend that.
