They said that there will be a high level of economic cooperation during the economic crisis. Cooperation between Belgrade, Budapest Tadic said that the two countries are both doing a good job in combating the economic crisis. “We spoke about building infrastructure between Belgrade and Budapest. In 2010, Serbia will finish the complete highway from Belgrade to Horgos and the part of the highway towards Kelebija next year,” Tadic said. He said that the construction of traffic infrastructure will contribute to the Serbian and Hungarian economy. “I told the citizens of Serbia that I will not participate in opening new work on the highways towards the Hungarian border, I will be closing them, because too often politicians in Serbia open work on something and never finish it,” Tadic said. The two agreed that Tadic would visit the Serb minority community in Hungary next year on the Saint Sava saint day. “We also spoke about the education of our children that must be supported with all measures of the state and education policies. This also includes the protection of cultural identity and the identity of all ethnic communities, but technical questions as well that should speed up the process of gaining knowledge because our societies must become societies of learning very soon,” Tadic said. Solyom said that the new Vojvodina statute is very important, especial the law for national council, which practically enables “full cultural autonomy” for minority communities, including the Vojvodina Hungarians. He said that the Hungarian community in Vojvodina contributes to Serbia’s EU integration, and Budapest will do everything it can for Brussels to put Serbia’s candidacy application on the agenda as soon as possible. Solyom said that he and the Serbia president meet often, which shows that they have a personal friendship and very good bilateral relations between the two countries.
